Our Wedding

Our wedding holds many great memories for us. We had an intimate wedding at a local park. Gus and I made everything from the decorations to the food. The fact that we had spent so much time sitting together making things made it even more special. Honestly the time we spent getting ready for the wedding was almost as special as the day itself.  So without further ado, I present to you our wedding! And of course more pictures then you ever cared to see...

Getting Ready

I made my bouquet out of felt and buttons. Gus had bought me these pink converse to wear at the reception.

One of the first books Gus and I read together was 'Thru the Looking Glass'. In honer of that I made a bracelet with a White Rabbit charm.

Gus designed that ring and found someone to make it for me. And my secret is I got the earrings from Walmart for $5.

Everyone else seemed to be freaking out because it was windy...I guess it was messing things up at the wedding site. I'll be honest that I did not care about any of it. All I wanted to do was marry Gus, nothing else really mattered to me.I remember telling everyone that the only thing we cared about was the getting married part. We just wanted to say our vows and be married. I had tunnel vision all day...I just wanted to see Gus.

Gus was so handsome. I made his boutonniere from buttons. He had the lock charm and I had the key pen that came with it on my dress.

The Reveal

Before our wedding we snuck away to see each other. My heart was beating so fast when I saw Gus standing on the bridge with his back to me.

The moment he turned around we both started crying. We knew we would be married within the hour!

I guess I should talk about my dress. I designed it and picked out all of the fabric. A local seamstress made it for me because I was not brave enough to sew it myself. I love the tea length and all of the fluffy pale pink tulle. I found a beautiful tulle fabric that had rhinestones that I used for the top layer of the skirt and the birdcage veil.

Having that time alone before our ceremony was amazing.

The Ceremony

Gus wrote the song that I walked down the aisle to! It was so romantic and I'm still amazed he did it. In the background is my dad. He forgot to take off his sunglasses! My dad had just walked me down the aisle and Gus had started crying. You can't see my face but I was crying to. We were so excited.

My bridesmaids were Gus's oldest niece and one of my best friends. I let them choose their own dresses, my only request was that they were summery little silk dresses with a more retro cut. I made them pinwheels to carry.
I love how intimate our ceremony was. Everyone we loved stood around us in a circle as we said our vows in a beautiful clearing. My best friend, Misti, who was also mine and Gus's roommate before we got engaged, actually got ordained so she could marry us. I thought it was so amazing to have her perform the ceremony.

Gus and me (with the help of Misti-she is a very talented writer) wrote our whole ceremony!

Before we said our vows we each read a letter we wrote to each other. We did 'Paper Scissors, Rock' to decide who would go first. Gus ended up doing "Spock" which of course beats all the former mentioned things. HAHA, random geek trivia thrown in. We were both crying so hard by this time. Gus especally was laughing and crying at the same time.  It was amazing being able to hear the others emotions as we read our own words.

The best part was the hand binding ceremony. We each wrote our own vows. What I loved about them was they were real, we promised things to each other that made our relationship special. I promised to say "Good Night my Love" every night. He promised to say "Good Morning Sunshine". I even promised that no matter how old we got I would always make time to stay up late and play Castlevania together. But most importantly we promised that we would be each others best friends and work hard to become stronger. We wrote our vows separately and I was surprised to see how similar they were. We both promised things that were true. We both had funny things that made our relationship us thrown in! And we both promised to work hard to become stronger in the end and to always do the small things that made our relationship special. While we said these vows (going back and forth....I think we each had ten) Misti bound our hands.

And FINALLY we were married and we kissed!
I love this picture because you can tell we had been crying and we could not let go of each other.

The Details

This is our youngest niece. She was our flower girl. See her wings!

I was in Color Guard in High School and independent winter guard after high school. So of course i brought my flags for people to play with.

We made pin wheels for favors. Some of our family members still have them! We also had these cute cards set out. We still have all the cards with the messages that people wrote in them for us!

We made these little owls as decor.
We made our cake toppers from model magic. They were supposed to be robots with Companion Cubes from the game Portal. This is our sweet table with our raspberry cutting cake, homemade cookies, homemade cupcakes, fruit, and candy.

This is our nephew! We had bubbles for everyone to play with.

The paper flowers that we had on the tables.

The pavilion we had the reception in. You can see the paper pom poms that we had wrapped around the pillars.

We had glass bottles drinks.

I baked our wedding cupcakes by myself! We had Strawberry with coconut butter cream,  Chocolate Chip with Chocolate Butter Cream, Lemon with lemon zest cream cheese icing, and a fluffy white vanilla with vanilla butter cream.

We had side walk chalk. Everyone drew awesome pictures. It was really fun.

A park wedding meant
Port -O-Pottys.
We made the best of it by decorating them. Honestly Gus and I had an amazing time being goofy in them!

The Reception
We had a 'Day in the Park' reception with lots of sweets! I loved how casual it was with dancing, bubble blowing, flag spinning, guitar playing, and singing.  It was the perfect way of sharing the day with our loved ones.

We had our first dance to the 'The Way I am' by Ingrid Michleson.

Gus and I ended up having a cake fight. It was great fun. Our friends and family also made some amazing speeches. They made us laugh and cry, great fun!

Needless to say we danced! All of the bridal party ended up doing THE TIME WARP which was great fun!

The best part of the reception was when Gus surprised me by pulling out his guitar and serenading me with The Proclaimers "500 Miles'. To this day it is one of our favorite moments together. It was so sweet and perfect.
And of course more music and awesomeness with an encore.

And needless to say more goofiness occurred. At the end of the night Gus and I went to Steak and Shake (in our wedding clothes). It was so much fun and  some friends stopped by to eat with us. All the customers came over to say congrats and the manager gave us a free meal! It was just fun and a great way to end the evening before going home and preparing for our romantic camping and canoeing honeymoon.

And life gets even better after the wedding!!!
